Web Host SingleHop Unveils Turn-key Cloud Reseller System

Dedicated servers and other web hosting solutions provider SingleHop (www.singlehop.com) has launched the first-of-its-kind cloud hosting reseller system, the Cascade Platform.

According to SingleHop’s Wednesday announcement, the Chicago-based Web host will offering Cascade’s turn-key cloud hosting to resellers under SingleHop’s reseller brand Tandem. Cascade will let resellers seamlessly create, and manage virtual machines using SingleHop’s LEAP control panel, and then have the ability to sell them with fully customized control panels for the end-user in more than 15 languages.

Earlier this year, SingleHop launched the Tandem Reseller system, which offers resellers enhanced control, greater sales potential, and higher margins.

“Tandem revolutionized the reseller market,” SingleHop president and chief executive officer Zak Boca said in a statement. “It was the first to offer the end-user a fully white-labeled control panel. Tandem also gained notoriety amongst web hosters by providing unlimited SSL certificates, among other exclusive offers.”

The Cloud hosting reseller system is scheduled to launch July 17, prior to the Web hosting industry’s major annual convention, HostingCon, in which SingleHop executives will present sessions on Cascade and other topics of interest to the hosting community.

Since its launch in 2006, SingleHop has become one of the fastest-growing providers of dedicated and complex hosting solutions, and has achieved a dominant position in this sector. Cascade is the latest offering in SingleHop’s continuing effort to offer innovative solutions for end users and resellers.

In 2008, SingleHop introduced LEAP, an advanced control panel, designed to give customers complete control over their infrastructure, and has since adapted to suit customers, providing access options including the iPhone, iPad, Blackberry, Firefox toolbar, and various widgets.

“Adoption of cloud computing technologies by hosting providers has not yet hit a tipping point, because we feel hosting companies haven’t had the necessary components to easily bring a product to market.” Boca said. “We feel that our unique combination of technologies, LEAP, Tandem, and Cascade will change the landscape, and will further enable adoption of cloud computing in the hosting world.”

Stabroek News website in the clear-Google

Internet search giant Google says that the Stabroek News website has not hosted malicious software over the last 90 days and that it “is not currently listed as suspicious.” Google said that over the last 90 days the website www.stabroeknews.com “appeared to function as an intermediary for the infection of 1 site(s)” and that it was “listed for suspicious activity 1 time(s) over the past 90 days.”   This had resulted in the internet search giant temporarily issuing a security advisory listing the Stabroek News website as “suspicious” for several hours on Saturday.  However, full access to the website was restored at 9 pm on Saturday. Stabroek News technical staffer Kester Clarke said that on Friday one of the newspaper company’s web servers was targeted by an unknown attacker. The attack was first observed at 11 pm, and the attacker was able to serve malicious software to visitors on the website on 7 of its pages.  According to Clarke, at about 2:30 am on Saturday “the malicious software was removed from the server and the weakness plugged by our technical staff along with the assistance of our Web Host.”  The problem, Clarke explained, was solved using an automated system.  He said too that efforts are ongoing to prevent such problems from recurring. By the time the problem was fixed, Clarke said that Google’s Search Advisory had already scanned the infected pages and had begun notifying users of Mozilla Firefox as well as visitors arriving through search engine results that the Stabroek News website might be harmful to their computer. However, during this time, persons using Internet Explorer had no difficulty in accessing the Stabroek News website, Clarke pointed out. Google in their latest diagnostic test of the website said that the last time suspicious content was found was on Saturday. It said too that “of the 360 pages we tested on the site over the past 90 days, 7 page(s) resulted in malicious software being downloaded and installed without user consent.” The last time Google visited the site was on Monday. Clarke explained that the malicious software was linked back to the website dhfyjrud321.com  which was established sometime on Friday.  It is unclear whether this site was created locally, but Clarke said that this was a possibility. An article appeared in last Sunday’s Guyana Chronicle captioned “Google warns against visiting Stabroek News website; paper sorting problem out with Google”. The article quoted one Michael Jebbs, a security adviser at Google Inc, as saying that “the company had launched an investigation into the operations of Stabroek News after receiving complaints from a U.S Internet Spyware watchdog and dozens of users in the United States alleging that Stabroek News has been installing spyware and malicious software onto the computers of visitors to their website.” The Guyana Chronicle has to date not carried a follow-up story clarifying that the problem had been solved and was not attributable to SN. Meanwhile, Clarke said that prior to Friday there had been two complaints from visitors to the Stabroek News website about them receiving spyware after visiting but that these were investigated and proven to be false. He said on both occasions, the spyware had come from other sites that the persons had visited. SN Editor-in-Chief Anand Persaud said Guyana Publications Inc. will do whatever is necessary to further bolster the security of the website. He said the website is patronized by thousands every day both here and in the diaspora. He added that on a regular basis there are attempts to attack the website but these have been repulsed by the multi-layered security protecting the website and its servers.  He said that since the Saturday incident website traffic has returned to normal. Savvis Symphony Helps Configure Enterprise-Class Virtual Private Data Centers in the Cloud

Expanding one of the broadest lines of cloud services on the market, cloud infrastructure and hosted IT solutions provider Savvis (www.savvis.net) has released Savvis Symphony Virtual Private Data Center, which can be used to provide a 100-percent enterprise-class cloud.

According to Savvis’ Monday announcement, Savvis Symphony VPDC lets enterprises quickly and securely design and deploy a complete set of enterprise-class data center services for a variety of applications without having to physically procure, install, configure or manage any hardware.

“An enterprise-class VPDC can be configured and deployed in about an hour from anywhere in the world, whereas it often takes up to 90 days to provision physical servers and build out the operating systems using typical IT processes,” Savvis chief technology officer Bryan Doerr said in a statement.

The Savvis Symphony suite (www.savvisknowscloud.com) of cloud services includes public cloud services Savvis Symphony VPDC and Savvis Symphony Open, which both offer differentiated service levels with predictable performance for scenarios ranging from development and testing of new applications to automated capacity increases due to seasonality or unforeseen demand for IT resources. There is also Savvis Symphony Dedicated for private cloud services, allowing clients to tailor and scale their dedicated infrastructure at their own pace.

Savvis Symphony additionally offers fully managed hosting services on top of fully managed, enterprise-class infrastructure.

Savvis Symphony VPDC currently features multi-level service profiles with features, support levels and performance parameters to suit various application types such as test and development, web hosting and mission-critical applications. There are currently two service profiles, “Essential” and “Balanced,” with a third, “Premier,” planned in a follow-up release.

Privacy and security is a major concern as enterprises increasingly consider moving mission-critical applications to the cloud. Addressing these concerns, Savvis offers a range of network solutions integrated with Savvis Symphony including network options ranging from public connectivity over Savvis’ Tier 1 IP network backbone to secure, low-latency, quality-of-service-enabled Application Transport Services, Savvis’ core Multi-Protocol Label Switching-based service.

In addition, Savvis Symphony Open and Savvis Symphony Dedicated can be used to create unique hybrid solutions that blend enterprise-class cloud with traditional infrastructure services such as colocation and managed services. This combination of services, infrastructure and business model, coupled with Savvis’ global data center footprint, lets enterprises create a consistent, secure application experience anywhere in the world.

“Not all applications are cloud ready, but enterprises still want to take advantage of the cost savings of cloud,” Doerr said. “Savvis Symphony hybrid solutions tie the cloud into an organization’s colocation, managed services and network services to solve unique needs while backed by the security and performance of a leading infrastructure provider.”

In a related announcement, Thomson Reuters Elektron chose Savvis to provide strategic elements of its hosting infrastructure supporting its ultra-high speed real-time data network and hosting environment for financial firms wishing to globally access and share information faster and more cost effectively.
